Flip Flops

Author: Ross Bainbridge

Flip-flops are simply a pair of sandals that are versatile enough to be worn in several ways. Although this type of sandal was first identified with the beach, it can be worn on any casual day. If you want to go to the amusement park, flip-flops can be paired with a casual dress, or with a pair of jeans or shorts, or even with skirts. If you want to take a stroll in a mall, a pair of flip-flops is the most ideal footwear you can use, as they wont give you pain after several hours of walking around looking for bargains. Not only this, flip-flops have found their use in other formal events such as weddings, proms, formal dances and others.

Flip-flops hail from the traditional woven sandal footwear of Japan and the wooden soled sandals of New Zealand. They usually take the form of flat and backless sandal with a V-shaped strap attached to three points on the simple soles. The name, flip-flop, was coined apparently due to the rhythmic sound it creates while the wearer is walkingit slaps against the floor and the wearers heels. Flip-flops are called different names. To name a few, flip-flops are also known as thongs, pluggers, slaps, slippers, havaianas, and go-aheads.

Notwithstanding the fact that flip-flops are considered as the simplest and cheapest footwear, in the recent years, these have become a promising fashion statement especially in Western countries. Flip-flops have also become a craze in the fashion world, especially for young adults and teenagers as they symbolize the laid back lifestyle associated with the beach and other tropical locations. Also, flip flops are very inexpensive compared to other forms of footwear. You can buy a basic rubber pair for a couple of dollars. This kind of footwear is available in different colors and materials such as rubber, transparent plastic, leather, wood, cloth, and nylon to suit every personality and whim. Also, for a more formal look, flip-flops can be adorned with rhinestones, shiny beads, sequins and pearls.
